10. Why do electricity prices change?

Electricity prices change due to supply and demand for energy. Electricity prices will decrease when energy supply increases. However when there is a supply shortage, prices will increase. Electricity prices will also increase when demand for energy increases and when this demand decreases, prices will fall. Many factors impact supply and demand including fuel, power plants, transmission & distribution lines, weather conditions and regulations. Shifts in these factors ultimately lead to price volatility.
